Monday, Oct. 13, 1930

Today the banks are closed on account of Columbus Day yesterday.  Wm. Meister Jr. was here this morning and looked at our horses, he bought them both for $45.00.  Mr. Burkhardt was here this morning too.  Mr. Meister rode the horses home so Papa had to take his truck home.  Rosalia had to take the Whippet and get Papa.  They was up by Coxeyville.  Bertille went out to Henry’s.  She helped Leona wash this afternoon.  We washed and ironed this morning.  Henry & family were at Peter Reheis yesterday.  Frank Dudenhoeffer and wife, George Duscan, Lester Hoefner & wife, daughter Virginia, Val Adam & family, Louis Dudenhoeffer family from St. Louis & Shads from Columbia, Jake Reheis & family, Gus Geodell & family, Edwin Reheis & Emil Bestman were all there.  We found 38 eggs today.  Edwin Watchel had a accident last night, but he isn’t hurt, the machine is smashed & bent up every which way.  He hit another car & turned his over in the ditch by Grossheim’s it happened.  Rosalia took 3 doz. eggs off & got .25¢ a doz.


Wednesday, Oct. 8, 1930

Rosalia and Bertille washed, ironed, patched today.  There is Rosary Devotion tonight in church.  Rosalia and Bertille went to church this evening, there wasn’t very many people there.  Tonight Wishkamps have a dance & don’t know if it is public or private.  Mrs. Rennecker came back today from down at Klotz’s, but she has to go back to Dehn’s again now.  We found 34 eggs today.


Monday, Sept. 29, 1930

Papa went over to Ed Meng’s to get the grass mower this morning, he is going to cut the grass on the north side of the house.  Rosalia & Bertille washed today.  Papa is hauling wood this afternoon.  Rosalia got the mail & took 8 doz. eggs to the store & got .24¢ a doz.


Monday, Sept. 22, 1930

We washed, ironed, patched today.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here this afternoon a little while, from here they went to Red Bud to Chris Buehler’s, it is their wedding anniversary.  Oliver Kammler is playing accordion over at George Wagner’s.  Ralph Ettling was here, he paid his $98.00, he still has a $100.00 to paid yet.  Peter Watchel had a accident by Grohmann’s lane up by Belleville.  He was by himself when it happened, but he didn’t get hurt so very much, because he went to work again today the way they say.


Tuesday, Sept. 16, 1930

We washed, ironed, cooked soap, scrub the basement today.  Bertille got the mail.  Mrs. Joe Gregson & family stopped in her this evening on there way down to Lester’s.  They invited us to come down to Fred Weber’s barn next Friday night, they are going to celebrate Joe and Lee birthday.


Wednesday, Sept. 3, 1930

Rosalia & Bertille washed, ironed, patched today.  Papa & Rosalia went out to Henry’s this morning.  Mr. H. Hover was here and looked at our horses, he was here for dinner.  Papa went up town to get coal oil to spray the chicken house with.


Tuesday, August 12, 1930

Rosalia & Bertille washed, ironed, patched, baked pie this morning.  Papa went up in the woods to get a load of gravel for our road, but he got stuck in the branch & he called for Rosalia to come up with the chevrolet & bring along the ax and the chain along.  Bertille made a chicken for dinner, we had soup.  Today is Melissa Wiegand’s birthday.  We all went there this evening.  There sure was a crowd there, lemonade, cake were the refreshments.  They had a cake baked with 23 candles on.  It is also Mrs. Ben Heyl’s birthday.  Clevelands were there until about 10 o’clock then them & Heyls came to Wiegands.  Nick Mueth furnished music, but his music broke so Gus Blackburn got his.  Uncle Fred brought Aunt Mary up this afternoon & he went back home again.  Aunt Mary was here for supper.  I have seen in the paper that Dr. Eckert was fined $5 & costs for disturbing the peace, about his father.  He is to have a trial today.  It looks awful cloudy.


Tuesday, June 17, 1930

Leona was up & the kids too.  Papa was called on to help work at the new school again today, so he went up & brought 3 benches down here & Leona took one along home with her.  When Papa came for dinner he brought 4 benches along for Aunt Mary’s.  We washed and ironed, baked bread, patched today.  Today Father Schlarman is to be ordained [the] Bishop of Peoria.  There is expected to be 300 to 400 priests present & 25,000 people to see the big event.  Mrs. Rennecker was over talking to us a little while this evening.  Papa dug a few new potatoes this evening.  Those that are there are sure nice & large, but there isn’t very many on a hill.  Papa didn’t go to work this afternoon.  He didn’t feel good.  He is so stiff in his legs.  Rosalia & Bertille went out to Henry’s this evening.  Leona cut our hair.  We looked after the horse & colt & mare.


Thursday, May 1, 1930

Henry was up this morning.  Rosalia and Bertille washed, ironed, scrubbed the basement today.  Papa worked up at the new school all day.  In the evening Rosalia, Bertille, Aunt Mary went to church.  Joe Grossheim’s have a new chevrolet sedan.  There are a lot of trucks hauling brick for the new school from Red Bud up here.  Those that hauled today were:  Eichenseer’s, Roth’s, Schilling’s, Lorberg’s, Gambach, Pabst, Klein’s, Helfrich’s, Brauns.  Our hens are hatching today.


Saturday, February 1, 1930

We found 2 eggs today.  Papa went to New Athens today.  The roads are getting awful muddy at present.  Rosalia & Bertille baked bread & coffee cake, & cleaned house today.
