Tuesday, Feb. 10, 1931

Today is Wedding High-mass for Lena Roth & Elmer Quirin.  Rosalia & Bertille went to church.  There were quite a few Paderborn people there.  His brother & sister were the attendants.  The bride wore a white dress & veil & bridesmaid wore a pale blue dress & hat.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this afternoon.


Friday, Jan. 30, 1931

Papa went out to work on the church farm again.  This afternoon Rosalia & Bertille went out to Aunt Mary’s.  Papa came over there too with Uncle Fred.  We all had supper there.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary stopped in this eve. before they went down to the dance at Wiegands.  The transfer of Anna Braun’s property was in the paper today.  It was in the paper about Gregory Neff & Hedwig Watchel, they were married Tues. morning at Paderborn.  Alvin Roos & Florence Meuth were also married at Paderborn this week.  The license for Elmer Quirin 21 to Lena Roth, Hecker, 22 were in the Times.


Friday, August 15, 1930

We all went early this morning to church.  The priest passed Miss Stella Roscow by this morning at the communion railing.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here for dinner and breakfast.  This afternoon we all went into Belleville.  We got some cook pots.  Rosalia went and got the mail.  This evening Papa, Rosalia, Bertille, Uncle Fred, Aunt Mary, Henry & family went up to Uncle Adam’s & Emil’s.  I have seen in the Waterloo Times that Miss Ida Sommer & two girl friends from Columbia motored to Louisville, Kentucky, where they will spend a week seeing many points of interest such as Mammoth Cave, Lincoln’s birthplace at Hodgenville, Ky., The Old Kentucky home of Bardstown & Camp Knox.  They expect to return home Sat.  Also Miss Marie Kolmer and Louise Dalkert left Sat. for a tour of the west.  Their stops will include Denver, Colorado Springs, Estes & Yellowstone parks.  They will be gone about 2 weeks.  A 8 lb. baby girl was born to Mr. & Mrs. Geo. Strattman, the shoe man, at St. Mary’s Hospital, East St. Louis, Monday morning.  They now have a pair.  On August 9, Miss Alice Hoffman became the bride of Mr. Roy Bohres of St. Louis.


Friday, February 21, 1930

Papa and Rosalia went out to Henry’s this afternoon, Henry is sawing wood.  Mr. Jeff Payne and Virginia Alterkruse were married Wednesday, way it states in the paper.  Albert Monike was surprised last Sat. evening, when a number of his friends gathered at this home to join in the celebration of the anniversary of his birthday.  He was 52 years old.  Among those present were: Nick Schaefer, Frances, Rosalia, Lorinda, Maggie, Clarasia, his daughters, Mr. & Mrs. Frank Birkner, Henry Volkman, Robert Probst, George & Clarence Rettinghouse, Jerome and Wilford Cortner, Robert Lippert, Raymond Ambruster, Ed Cortner, Ben Kuhn, August Frisch, Clarence Pabst, August Millman & Roy Kammeron.  The elderly persons played cards while the young folks enjoyed the evening dancing.  The bachelor’s band consisting of harp, accordion & organ furnished the music.  Mail Carrier Schmidt’s niece died at Red Bud of flu.  The store of late Henry Kocchel at Waterloo was sold to Mrs. Lulu Myers who is going to start business as soon as possible.  We found 17 eggs today.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here this evening.
