Sunday, Nov. 23, 1930

Henry & family were here for dinner today.  After dinner they went home & then they was to get company from New Athens, the Klube family.  So Henry came up after some dishes and things from the store this afternoon.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up this afternoon.  This evening Frieda Keim of Waterloo is celebrating her birthday at Oak Grove.  We were there.


Tuesday, Nov. 11, 1930

Today is Mrs. Napier’s birthday.  We washed this morning.  Papa went out to Henry’s.  Osie Neff is butchering a cow for him, he is going to take it to Waterloo and sell it there.  Papa had dinner out there & then he took some beef back to Willie Ganley’s & then brought some to Uncle Fred’s.  Rosalia & Bertille went out to Aunt Mary’s this afternoon & finished our dresses.  This evening Rosalia & Bertille went up to see Mamie, we played cards & dominos.  Mr. Fries is getting buried this afternoon at New Athens.  There is also 2 funerals at Smithton, Mr. Heinrich, Mrs. Weyhaupt.


Sunday, Oct. 26, 1930

Today is shooting matches all over again, Ambrose Doyle, Philip Meuth, George Rickert.  Henry & family were all here for dinner today.  Little after dinner they went home.  In the evening Henry & Leona brought Bobby & Floyd here to stay with us all night, while they went to New Athens to play music.


Saturday, July 5, 1930

Today there is homecoming in New Athens.  This evening we went out to Henry’s a little while, they are going to thrash Monday morning.  I saw in the paper that Mr. & Mrs. Raymond Koch have the blessing of a little boy since last Thursday.  They now have a boy and a girl.  Mr. [and Mrs.] Jacob Miller celebrated their 29th wedding anniversary on July 2.


Monday, March 24, 1930

Today is Robert’s birthday.  Papa, Rosalia, Bertille went out to Henry’s this evening.  Uncle Fred and Aunt Mary were also there.  It rained heavy while we were out there.  Leona, Bobby, Floyd were here this afternoon.  Papa went to New Athens this morning.  Henry, Rosalia, Bertille all got a letter from the County Clerk of Chester for the remains of Mrs. Bridget Dunn.  Papa sent the papers which Dudenhoefers sent out here for him to fill up back again, but he didn’t fill in the blanks.  We found 28 eggs today.


Sunday, March 16, 1930

Aunt Mary and Uncle Fred had dinner with us.  Henry was up for church, then went home because they wanted to go away.  After dinner we went up to church.  We had lenten service.  After we came down from church, the St. Louis people were here.  Mr. & Mrs. Sigmund Dudenhoefer, Ellen Adams (their niece) & Frank Singer and Ervin Lensinger (?).  They all had lunch here.  Then we all got our picture taken, one on the front and one on the South side by the well.  The men Papa, Uncle Fred and Sigmund, got a picture taken by the chicken house.  In the evening, Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came back again.  They brought some potatoes up to Brauns store.  Mr. Jake Koch died at New Athens today.  Ed Parker’s little baby girl died suddenly.  We found 31 eggs today.

Monday, March 10, 1930

Papa went to New Athens this morning to see the Lumber Co.  Bertille wrote a letter to the Eureka Hatchery that we want 400 little chicks by the 24 of March.  Bertille took 6 dozen eggs to Eichenseers this morning.  She got .21¢ a dozen.  We found 27 eggs.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here a little while this evening.  Then afterwards we all went up to Uncle Adams.  Today is John Henkel’s birthday, we were up at Uncle Adam’s last year on the same day.  Uncle Adam isn’t feeling very good.


Saturday, February 1, 1930

We found 2 eggs today.  Papa went to New Athens today.  The roads are getting awful muddy at present.  Rosalia & Bertille baked bread & coffee cake, & cleaned house today.
