We washed today.  Anna Braun was here this morning.  This afternoon Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here.  Papa & Uncle Fred went down to see Anna Braun, & then afterwords went to Waterloo.  Uncle Fred bought Anna Braun’s house & buildings in Hecker today for $3,000.00.  A note as part pay.  Uncle Fred & Papa went over to see Elmer Kammler about the rent.  It is $10.00 every month.  Papa went down to see Jos. R. Braun this evening.  And ordered his license.  Jos. Watchel & Mr. Laut are each butchering 1 hog today.  Henry told us this morning that Rose Crook “nee” McDermott was buried this morning, she was in St. Clements Hospital in Red Bud, & was pretty bad sick, she had heart trouble.  They were just married about a year.  Ben Schilling bought Phillip Braun’s property, & Henry Braun sold 2 lots where his buildings are on to Clara Braun.  Everybody’s selling & buying now.  This evening Mr. & Mrs. Steve Rennecker was here, we played 4 handed pinochle.  Steve and Bertille were partners & lost 5 games out of 6.

We washed this morning & ironed & patched.  Papa was over at Ed Meng’s this morning to see if they had a hog rack, but he didn’t have any, so Papa went up to Eichenseer & got one there & then he loaded our hog & went out to Oscar Birkners.  This afternoon he went up in the woods.  Bertille got the mail this evening.  We got a doll sent for 3 coupons of Elgin Butter it is ready to cut out & stuffed & sewed shut & then ready to play with.

Today we are butchering one hog again.  Uncle Fred, Aunt Mary, Henry & family were all here for lunch & dinner.  Aunt Mary mixed some Caramel Cookie Recipe together.  Rosalia went up town this evening and got some air & gas in the Whippet.  Our Belleville News Democrat won’t come the same day it is printed anymore, because it don’t pay the bus driver to bring it along, because not many people here get that paper.

We are butchering one hog today.  Uncle Fred, Aunt Mary, Henry & family were all here for lunch & dinner.  Steve Rennecker was over this morning also a little while.  This afternoon Aunt Mary & Bertille went to Mrs. Rausch funeral.  There were so many people there so we just went as far as the house, because the church would of been crowded anyway.  It was an awful large funeral.  Miss Elsie Rausch is going to go down by Mrs. Brauns now the way we heard.  We were going out to Uncle Fred’s, Aunt Mary’s & met then coming to our place, right by the cemetery, so we turned around & came back home again, we were going out to listen to their radio, but there receiver didn’t work, so they brought it up this evening, so we could take it along to Belleville tomorrow.  They want to get one now from Philip Braun’s, so when they got there Mrs. Braun wasn’t at home, she went along over to St. Louis with Victor & the rest didn’t know were it was at, so Aunt Mary & Uncle Fred came down again.  I seen in the paper that Miss Emma Baetje from Smithton died.

Today is Gus Geodell’s birthday.  Papa went up to the creamery this morning to find out whether they had any cinders to spare.  Uncle Fred wanted some, but they didn’t have any, then Papa & Rosalia went up in the woods.  Joe Watchel is butchering a hog today.  Johnny Reheis is his butcher.  Lloyd Rausch was here at noon & wanted to sell us some Christmas stamps but we didn’t take any.  We all went out to Henry’s this evening to get the sleigh for a scalding binch [?].  After we left they went in to Waterloo, to Mr. Geodell’s birthday.  He is 49 years old.
