Today is Mrs. Joe Wachtel’s birthday.  Rosalia went up to church this morning.  It rained last night, thundered and lightin’, hail & wind, but it didn’t do no damage as far as I know.  Papa went up to the school this morning again, today he wanted all the men from the congregation to come to help pour cement.  Miss Lela & Ethel Deuker (sp?), the school teachers, took their school children to Fort Chartre yesterday in Lester Gregson’s truck for an outing.  They had wiener roast, ice cream.  There were about 50 children.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary were here this afternoon.  Uncle Fred went up to work at the new school.  They stayed at our house for supper.  Bertille went over to Mrs. Frank Birkner this afternoon & brought her some tomato plants from Aunt Mary.  Bertille took 3 dozen eggs to the store, got .20¢ a dozen.

Papa & Rosalia went out to Henry’s this afternoon.  Papa and Henry are going to James Cody’s sale and Rosalia is going to stay by Leona.  Bertille stayed at home.  Today is Irv Rapp’s birthday.  There is to be a party, but we were not invited.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary are going down to Red Bud this afternoon.  It is also Christ. Buehler’s birthday.  Lester Gregson moved on the Thompson place last Wednesday.  He intends to haul milk.  He wants to buy Griffin’s route, the one Elmer Lother drives.  If he got the route he was to start today.  Bertille took 3 dozen eggs to Eichenseers this afternoon and got .21¢ a dozen.  Mamie & Angela Eichenseer are coming down tonite to keep Bertille company.  We found 20 eggs.

We got our telephone connected today.  Papa, Steve Rheinecker, Elmer Kummer, & Victor Eichenseer set up the pole, & connected the wire.  There was a fire out at Uncle Adam’s today.  Emil was burning hedge and it started to run away.  He call the neighbors for help, but they didn’t answer.  So Papa & Odilla Eichenseer & Kenneth Kemp, Clem Parker, Lester Gregson went out, but the wind went down, so it didn’t take long they had it out.  Rosalia took 4 dozen eggs to Eichenseer’s this morning, she got .24¢.  We found 23 eggs today.
