Thursday, August 14, 1930

Today we have to fast from eating meat.  Papa went to Evansville & Red Bud this afternoon.  Aunt Mary & Uncle Fred came up this evening.  Aunt Mary, Rosalia & Bertille went up to church to confession.  Mamie Eichenseer came along down with us.  She stayed a little while.


Wednesday, August 6, 1930

Today is a sale down by Lenzburg and Marissa.  George Wagner is tearing his shed down and is going to build up a garage for his machine.  John Kammler and Reuben are doing the work.  Papa & Rosalia went out to Henry’s all day.  They took 2 chickens along for dinner.  Bertille stayed home & ironed & patched.  It was pretty hot today.  Dr. Eckert’s father died from old age & heat.  Mr. Rennecker came over on the porch with us a little while.  Jacob Erle & John Wittenaur’s machine got smashed tonight.  Wittenauer’s car was standing by Eichenseer’s when Jac. Erle came along and stopped to, he bumped into and knocked it against the tree over on the sidewalk & then back in the alley.  Erle had a scratch on the chin.  His car was pulled to Red Bud on a wrecking car.  Wittenaur’s is standing in Eichenseer’s back yard.


Saturday, July 26, 1930

Today is sales all over again.  We all went to the church sale.  Papa bought some lumber.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary got the range for $65.00.  Henry went to Peter Mulhauser sale at Burksville, they say everything went cheap.  Tonight is a dance at Kammler’s Hall.  We went up to Eichenseer’s corner to listen to the music.  Uncle Fred & Papa hauled a load of kindling out to their place this evening.  They were both here for supper.  They sure were loud at Kammler’s tonight, they were just yelling.


Friday, July 25, 1930

Today is Peter Melhauser’s sale by Burksville, Ill.  Papa thought he was going.  Today is also Clarence Pabsts birthday.  The way they say there is a bunch going to surprise him tonight.  Uncle Fred helped at the school today and Aunt Mary was here all day.  Uncle Fred came down here for dinner then afterwards Papa went along up & worked at the school too all afternoon.  We went out to Henry’s this morning.  Rosalia & Bertille got a hair cut.  We took some plums along too for jelly.  This evening Wm. C. Heyl came & wanted his money for lime dust.  Papa paid him $117.65 by check.  Mamie & Clarence Eichenseer was down a little while this evening.  Mamie said there was a big bunch went down to Clarence Pabst birthday.  He is 22 years old today.


Thursday, July 24, 1930

It is raining this morning.  This afternoon Papa went out and started discing again.  Clifford Stahlber was here nearly all afternoon playing with the colt.  Wilford & Clarence Eichenseer were also here.  Papa went over to Ed. Meng’s this evening with the mare, and we had to hold the Blindy & Queeny the colt.  We all went out to Henry’s this evening but when we got there they wasn’t home.  So Papa took a sample of sweet clover along to see how it was.  If it was fit for seed.


Sunday, July 13, 1930

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, Henry & Leona & family were all here for dinner today.  This evening Rosalia & Bertille walked up to Eichenseer’s corner.  It is nice & cool today, yesterday it was 106 degrees.  Henry C. Voges was buried this morning.  Today is Fern Gulley’s birthday & also George Parker’s, he was 50 years old.  Fern was 20 years old.  Today the Smithton Pontiac’s & Hecker teams played but Hecker lost this time.  They also lost last Sunday, they played with Waterloo K.C.


Wednesday, July 9, 1930

We all went out to Uncle Fred’s again to help to make hay, we were there for lunch, dinner & lunch.  Today is Mrs. Frank Birkner’s birthday.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary went.  Today is also Mamie Eichenseer’s birthday.


Tuesday, July 1, 1930

Rosalia & Bertille washed today.  Papa is setting posts.  Joe Schilling thrashed 900 bu. wheat today.  Rosalia & Bertille went out to Henry’s this evening a little while.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came up a little while this evening.  Rosalia clipped their necks for them.  Uncle Fred, Aunt Mary, Rosalia & Bertille went down to the cemetery to see the Gambach’s graves.  They are all decorated with flowers.  Eichenseers were also down there.  Papa was over at Ed. Mengs and then he came up to the store.  The day when Gambach brothers got buried, they say that Father Grootens was also in their church too.  On June 27 is also Steve Rennecker’s birthday, the same day the Gambach’s died.


Sunday, June 29, 1930

Papa & Rosalia went to first mass this morning.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary & Papa went in to Gambach’s this morning.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary was at our house for dinner today.  After dinner we all went up to Eichenseer’s corner and stood around there awhile.  Rosalia & Mamie & Angela & Bertille went up to see the new school.  It rained this evening.  There were an awful lot of people going in and out over at Gambach’s this afternoon.  Grace Axley was also up here.


Saturday, June 28, 1930

We all went in to Waterloo & through Red Bud home this afternoon.  Henry Kammler was to have his dance tonight but it is postponed on account of the deaths of the Gambach’s.  It is in all the paper’s about the accident that happened with the 2 boys.  It was just 43 years ago that George Gambach’s sister got drowned.  Odillo Eichensser & Rudolph Rausch were here this evening & looking for ball grounds.  Rosalia & Bertille & Mamie Eichenseer went over to see Gambach’s this evening.  They sure do look nice.  Mrs. George Gambach takes it awful hard & also Lela Deuker [Denker?].  She was going with Willard.  There were 5 machines, florists that brought flowers.
