Thursday, March 6, 1930

Papa, Henry, Rosalia, Bertille, Aunt Mary went down to Red Bud to Mrs. Dunn funeral.  Father Havey had the mass.  Aunt Mary and Bertille went to the quilting down at Mrs. Eckert’s this afternoon.  They had 2 quilts in the frames.  One blue and one pink.  They sure are pretty.  We found 24 eggs today.  It started to rain some now.  Aunt Mary & Henry had dinner with us.  Rosalia took 3 dozen eggs to Eichenseers & got .21¢ a dozen.  There was a man came to Hecker tonite and wanted shelter because it was raining all the time.  Mr. Hill & Henry Armstuz went to Waterloo this morning.


Thursday, February 27, 1930

Bertille was at church this morning.  There is to be quilting at Mrs. Eckert’s this afternoon.  Mr. Mehrman got stuck in George Wagner’s road and he had to get Vic Eichenseer to pull him out with their truck.  He had to serve as jury man in Belleville.  Joe Mueth in the prairie have a little son, they got him christened yesterday.  I don’t know what they named it.  Bertille took 3 dozen eggs to Eichenseer’s & got .21¢ a dozen.  Henry came up this evening and brought his calfs up.  He came down here a little while.  Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary came down here a little while before they went to Euchre.  Aunt Mary, Uncle Fred, Papa, Rosalia, & Bertille went to the Euchre and Old Time Dance in Kammler’s hall tonight.  The Herzog’s boy and girl played with both accordions.  Uncle Fred got a broom for a prize & Aunt Mary got a dish pan.  None of us got anything.  Bertille had 5 punches, Papa 4, and Rosalia 3.  The sixes took all the prizes.  They also had a slipper dance.  The ladies had to take their shoe off and throw them in a box and the boys had slips.  They had to pick one shoe and find the partner to that, then dance with that girl.  They had a square, broom, polka, barn dance and also some of the latest steps and tunes.  Uncle Fred played some of the old timers (tunes).  Found 23 eggs.


Sunday, February 2, 1930

Today the groundhog saw his shadow that means six more weeks bad weather.  Aunt Mary & Uncle Fred were here this morning.  Henry came up with Levi Ganley to church and took our Whippet home.  After dinner Henry’s family came up because there was Benediction and throat blessing.  We all got our throats blessed.  We found 5 eggs.  John Kammler’s and Mehremans were also there.  Mrs. Laut is on the sick list at present.  Adam Eckert’s baby Irvin is also sick with bronchitis and pneumonia.  Tonight there is a play at Smithton.  Players from the St. Mary’s Parish at Belleville (to preform).  Today Bill Grohman had their little baby girl baptized.  Mr. and Mrs. Adam Matzenbacher were sponsons.  They named it Orlin Ida.  Henry had company last night.  Uncle Pete and Jake’s kid and Betty Jane and rest of family were there.


Sunday, January 26, 1930

Uncle Fred & Aunt Mary, Henry and family were here for dinner.  After dinner Papa, Rosalia, and Bertille went out to Aunt Mary’s and had supper there.  Today is Aunt Mary’s birthday.  Those present in the evening were Christ Buehler and family, Oscar Birkner’s family, Adam Eckerts family, George Parker’s family, Mr. & Mrs. Louis Birkner, Mr. & Mrs. Henry Birkner, Mr. & Mrs. Henry Brand and family, Mr. & Mrs. Frank Birkner.  The evening was spent in dancing and playing cards.  Lemonade and cake were served.  We came home at 11 o’clock.
